Clifton Robinsons L2 opened their season last weekend in an away fixture vs Cheltenham, having only played each other a couple of weeks previously during preseason. In the past, the fixtures have always been closely contested so it was always due to be a exciting game. Clifton Robinsons had a solid start with many making their debuts for the club as well as a few new faces to National League. Both teams created some early chances with Clifton Robinsons absorbing lots of pressure. In the 2nd quarter against the run of play Meally scored her first goal for the club, meaning we went in to the half time break 1-0 up. Clifton Robinsons continued to soak up the pressure in the 2nd half with some great work from the defence including Clifton Robinsons’ Man of the Match and new captain Jules making some last ditch tackles. In all our efforts to protect the lead, Cheltenham were awarded a flick. It was well executed, to pull the game to 1-1. Cheltenham maintained their pressure immediately after their first goal and very quickly took the lead: 2-1. Clifton Robinsons kept fighting to the end, looking to gain a point by creating some fast breaks but it wasn’t meant to be and Cheltenham finished the game as 2-1 winners.
