Spirits were high for the men in blue going into the fixture after 2 excellent wins, however their task of making it 3 from 3 quickly became more difficult due to injuries. A. Gilbert managed to go over on his ankle and break a bone with his first touch of the ball, and S. Tanna strained his hamstring. We wish them both a speedy recovery and it meant that Robbies were down to 12 men after the opening 10 minutes.

Robbies fought hard and with some good saves being made by both keepers, the game was goalless at the half way stage.

The ongoing forward pressure from University of Bristol finally found reward and with 20 minutes to go they were 2-0 up courtesy of some loose Robbies marking in the D, and some below par ball retention when attacking. The Blue Army dug deep and managed to score through a low, well-slotted drag flick from S. Leigh, which gave the side hope. Unfortunately UoB had other ideas and managed to sneak in two more goals before the final whistle.

A couple of interesting decisions as well as two serious injuries meant that the scoreline was a heavy loss however on the balance of it, UoB’s continuous pressure wore out the Robbies defence and were deserved victors.

The Blue Army look to bounce back next week with a home fixture against Chippenham HC. #BleedBlue
