This Sunday one of our own, Lisa Thorburn, is swapping her hockey stick for her running trainers as she is taking on the London Marathon to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, a charity which grants wishes for critically ill children.

“Critical illnesses” means that the children spend the majority of their time under medical attention, and they have little chance for to be a “child” as they are undergoing treatment for anything from cardiovascular problems, to cancer to gastrointestinal or immunodeficiency issues with children as young as 3 currently making wishes.

The children can choose anything they have always wanted to do but haven’t been able to, with current wishes ranging from; going to the cinema, to a trip to legoland, to a family holiday or a flight in a hot air balloon. The wishes aim to provide some happiness to both the children and their families between hospital visits.

Husband Rory has stated Lisa has ‘run more miles in August than in his entire 30 year life’, which is well worth a donation in my eyes!
