The first game of the Men’s 1s campaign against Cardiff Uni began. Robbies started the team on top at the start with higher intensity of ball play . Good small unit play down both sides led to a plethora of opportunities early. This Included two short corners in which, despite a sticky pitch hurting the injection, we capitalised on the second: A skill past the first runner followed up with a reverse stick shot by Nick was deflected in by former Cardiff Uni boy Isaac at the back post, the first goal of the season.

Not to be outdone, this was quickly followed by fellow debutant Quin running down the left side and having a shot. In bizarre circumstances, this was deflected off a defenders stick onto the cross bar and then tapped in by Quin. After this, the first quarter ended: 2-0.

Cardiff got a hold of themselves into the next quarter and started putting some more pressure on Robbies. However, good defence across all lines as well as some tactical changes with the press stopped them from having many opportunities.

The second half was much of the same with Robbies having some near misses and Cardiff creating opportunities. Thankfully though, we were able to hold the opposition out of our goal, for the game to end 2-0. A class performance from Robbies to secure a win in the first game of the season. MOM went to Quin and DOD to Sam Stevens.
